The History
When Haitian Revolutionary leader Jean-Jacques Dessalines came into power, he decided that it would be time to remove the French Flag. The white stripe in the French flag was removed and the red and blue were bonded. The center piece of the flag (which was the national coat of arms) was introduced some time during the dictatorship that lasted from the 60's to the late 80's Description There are two horizontal halves of the flag, the top being blue and the bottom red. These colors originated from the flag of France but other then that, the colors are meaningless. The centerpiece of the flag is the Haitian national coat of arms. |
Geography
Haiti is a part of an island that it shares with the Dominican Republic. This country is apart of a group of islands known as the Caribbean which is located just south of the state of Florida, and just north of the South American countries of Guyana, Venezuela, and Columbia. It is in the Caribbean Sea but also has waters from the Gulf of Mexico and the Northern part of the Atlantic Ocean.
Haiti is the mountainous of all the Caribbean island and has scattered vegetation throughout. It has a tropical temperament with year long warmth. It is located in hurricane alley (a stretch of warm water in the Atlantic Ocean that goes from the western part of Africa to the south/east coast of North America) meaning there are rainy seasons during the months between August and early November.
